On Saturday 05 July 2008 the vets at Cranbourne Equine Hospital will Microchip your horse for $37 (normally $75) and you can also have your horse vaccinated (Tetnus & Strangles) for a discounted $18.
Bookings are essential. Details below.
If you live in the area but can’t make it on the day, the Cranbourne Equine Hospital is still offering discounted Microchipping at your paddock or stables. The discount offer applies for July and August 2008. The cost is $55 (+ travel) so it is well worth getting a few of you together and having all your horses done at the same time.
The day is being held to assist owners to comply with new EFA regulations that require registered horses to be microchipped, however, even if you are not going to register your horse with the EFA, it is still worthwhile having him (or her) microchipped.
Deborah Jeffrey, from Cranbourne Equine Hospital, said "Recent media reports supporting this permanent identifaction and tracking process has increased interest from a variety of horse owners with performance horses through to pleasure ponies. We understand the ever increasing costs associated with competition and horse ownership and recognise the diverse benefits of this permanent form of identification."
Microchipping is a routine practice that has been used for domestic pet ID for over ten years and it assists with the recovery of thousands of lost or stolen animals every year.
Microchipping is a permanent form of ID which can not be modified and it can assist in the recovery of an animal if it is lost or stolen anywhere in Australia, 24 hours a day.
Microchipped horses will be registered with both the EFA (if applicable) and Central Animal Records (CAR).
