Yellowstone Requires Blood Test For Horses

HorsePoint - June 2008

Yellowstone National Park, Wyo. (AP) - Owners of horses, mules and burros will need to show proof that the animals have been tested recently for Equine Infectious Anemia before they can bring the animals into Yellowstone National Park.

Horseflies and other biting insects can transfer the disease from infected animals to healthy ones. There's no vaccine, treatment or cure for the disease, and it can be fatal to horses and other similar animals.

Anyone bringing a horse, mule or burro into the park must show proof that a negative Coggins Test for the disease has been conducted in the past 12 months.
