HorsePoint - August 2007

August 30, 2007 - 3:53PM - The federal government has established a $4 million fund to provide emergency grants to those who suffer financial difficulty as a result of the equine influenza outbreak.

Agriculture Minister Peter McGauran today announced that grants of up to $1,500 will be available in NSW and Queensland for individuals whose livelihood is dependent on horses.

Mr McGauran said Racing New South Wales will receive $2.5 million and Queensland Racing will receive $1.5 million to distribute to individuals both within the racing industry as well as non-racing, horse-dependent employees and business owners.

The Sydney Spring Carnival will be cancelled after eight racehorses from a Randwick stable today tested positive for equine influenza.
